Senate Approves Measure to Make Public Epstein Records

The Senate on Tuesday quickly approved to legislation that will force the release of investigative files associated with the late pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, after a near-unanimous vote in the House of Representatives and a shift by Donald Trump and his Republican allies. The administration relented after months of trying to forestall the joint action involving a controversy that has followed the president since his comeback to the White House.

Expedited Approval in Both Chambers

The Senate acted by general agreement, which needs acceptance from each senator but avoids a formal roll call vote, speeding up the process. Earlier that day, the House voted decisively for the bill on a near-unanimous vote.

Citizens have endured sufficient delay. Those affected have suffered long enough,” the Senate Democratic leader declared in a Senate remarks on Tuesday, before requesting the chamber to approve it without opposition. “Let the truth come out. Ensure full disclosure.”

Next Steps

The measure next will be sent to Donald Trump for his approval. The president indicated on the previous day that he would endorse the legislation.

Even though Trump has for an extended period dismissed the controversy over the authorities' approach of the Epstein case as a “political stunt”, he voiced approval for the House bill over the weekend, and stated he would give his assent if it reaches his desk.

Support and Opposition

The Democratic party, along with victims and their representatives who were present in a public section, cheered after the bill was enacted. The only opposition came from Clay Higgins, who stated he was concerned the measure would reveal specific data of individuals involved, potential suspects and others involved in the investigation.
