The artist has given the entirety of his £25k award winnings to the MVT, which works to preserve the United Kingdom's independent music venues.

The star was given the award on 16 October as his latest record the album was chosen as the top album of the past year.

He has chosen to give the cash to the MVT, in recognition of the essential function local spots had in his beginning days.

"As an artist would not have achieved what I am doing today if it weren't for all the shows I performed around the region, and elsewhere, when I was beginning," stated Sam Fender. "These spaces are renowned, but they are in difficulty."

From early 2023 onward, at least 150 of these locations have permanently closed – about one-sixth of the total UK scene.

Over the past year, well-known musicians including Pulp, the group Coldplay, Katy Perry and Sheeran have all aided the MVT in its efforts to keep the scene afloat, by adding a minor surcharge to their ticket prices, which benefits independent venues.

Fender also joined in, raising more than £100,000 on his 2024 arena tour to assist thirty-eight local spots across Britain.

These funds assisted locations that were confronting possible closure due to difficulties arising from flooding, blazes and bereavements, as well as permit problems, court cases and noise complaints.

Some locations received funding support in upgrading facilities and sound and lighting systems that positively impacted performers and concertgoers.

"The notion that funds from performances in large arenas backs the smaller venues, where it all starts for musicians like me, is just common sense," Sam Fender has stated.

He is far from the only musician to give his award funds to worthy causes.

When the band earned the award in 1996 for their release the album, lead singer Jarvis Cocker declared that the group would contribute their winnings to the charity War Child.

That year, rapper and singer Ms Dynamite split her bounty across several charities, like the children's charity and a Sickle Cell organization.

"Additionally, I donated a grand to my local community centre, to their classes, because I did gymnastics when I was a child and they required better apparatus," Ms Dynamite shared with outlets.

Two years ago, the band contributed their winnings to the community center that nurtured their band, in addition to other local music groups.

And winners that year they gave their award to a multiple sclerosis charity after a friend was diagnosed the disease.

"Receiving the award was ample," said singer Small. "The money was the cherry on top but we didn't need the extra, because we had the cake. So our winning affected another person's life."

Recently, the Music Venues Trust revealed it had rescued two small stages in the South East, by transferring them to public stewardship.

One venue in that area and the second in the city were acquired under the Own Our Venues program, which is backed by the arts council and supporters who buy "shares" in the properties.
