Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Fighters Party

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a wide array of personalities, and a exciting storyline featuring divine entities, evil spirits, and dark forces growing in strength within the city.

Warning: Spoilers for Episode 3 of the new season are included.

The Warrior Group Introduced

The latest chapter finished on a dramatic pause and introduced the first table of adventurers who will split off from the primary party to embark on their independent quest, separate from the remaining groups.

The combat-focused team consists of Teor Pridesire (portrayed by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura), the fierce warrior (Whitney), the cleric (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).

The Reason for Division

With a large ensemble, it was obvious from the start that keeping everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.

This explains, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Introduction, intertwining the personal journeys before dividing into three smaller tables: Warriors, Strategists, and Explorers.

What Defines the Warrior Group

As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for participants who prefer a traditionally charged battle-oriented gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are few and far between.

At first glance, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might appear unsuited, but the events of episode 3 show why these five characters are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Reasons to Leave

To begin with, the party understands precisely where to head next after a brutal initial meeting with the antagonists.

An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose passing initiated the campaign’s events—exploited the foes for his personal gain, breaking into the hidden lair, assaulting Thimble, and taking all the enchanted items to auction.

Casimir then cleared his debts and escaped to a secure base in the northern region, north of the city, with Cyd hot on his heels.

Personal Motivations

Additionally, each character has a specific drive to leave the city the urban setting:

  • Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, wants revenge.
  • Kattigan knows the region and cautions that it is a hostile place.
  • The strong character and The healer, having resisted his relatives’ demands to eliminate Teor and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
  • But, their reputation as prominent individuals in House Halovar could help the party access areas they normally couldn’t.
  • Additionally, The fighter vowed a unbreakable promise to The savior for his salvation and will now follow him wherever.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are hunted by the powers that govern Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making staying in the city dangerous:

  • Thimble and The hero are known criminals.
  • The warrior and The cleric betrayed the influential house and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by the family.

This results in them few options but to journey toward the northern region in pursuit of the traitor.

Upcoming Developments

Based on the recent installment’s post-show segment, we find out that the Soldiers table will not appear the following episode, leaving the rest of the participants to form the Seekers and Planners tables.

Viewers can look forward to discovering which adventurers will be where in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
