Approximately 50 automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to police.
Automobiles, walls and postal boxes were marked, sometimes with swastikas, they announced in a official communication.
Law enforcement say they were notified during the night on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored fluid.
The fluid had been drawn in the form of a swastika, they stated.
Police then discovered many other marked cars and house walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Police say preliminary tests show the substance was likely blood from a person.
"There is still no lead as to where it came from; officials are not yet informed of any injuries in connection with the event," they commented.
City officials stated they were working "to solve the incident" and have appealed to the residents for details.
An important political figure commented the incident rendered him speechless and had to be solved quickly.
"This incident strikes at the very heart of Hanau and revives the pain of the right-wing violent incident in 2020," he stated on online, referring to the murder of nine victims by a gunman targeting individuals of foreign heritage in 2020.
